Decent flick, hadn't read the book (and real story by the ethnopharmacologist). Sigma Chemical Company sells the puffer fish tetrodotoxin in their company catalog.
the book stinks. the author can't write and doesn't seen to know his subject. the whole enterprise reaks of an attempt to capitalize on the wildly successful "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge" (still in print) which is so much better in so many ways i won't even attempt to compare the two.I don't expect anyone will be foolish enough to try and make a film of Carlos Casteneda's works.
and re-read them every so often. Still enjoyable. And still think The Serpent...was a good flick.
