The wife and I saw "Being Julia" a couple of night's ago (fortunately, before I saw the thread below!). I, too, felt unstatisifed with Bennings performance and uncomfortable during the "revenge scene." But with the final scene, both the film and Ms. Benning's performance were redemed.Throughout the film, Benning was an actress playing an actress which leaves the impression of no real "acting" being involved (I had the same feeling watching the shallow characters in "Closer"). But the doubt, the uncertainty she displayed in the final scene with her physical demeaner alone salvaged the performance. No joy, no confidence, only fear facing the consequences of her actions, and facing them alone.
