In the tradition of the British gangster movies such as the Long Good Friday, Snatch, Sexy Beast, where the thugs are ultra-rich and ultra-sophisticated, I am a sucker for this kind of thing. This is nowhere near as frenetic as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch, more a traditionally told tale. Similar to Sexy Beast, it is the successful gangster looking to retire, but of course it's not going to be that easy. The layer cake is the whole criminal enterprise, which the aspiring dumb thugs on the bottom and the pillar of society on the top. our unnamed hero is in the middle. There are no great surprises here, but if you like this kind of thing, it's top notch.
If anyone has seen it, I do have some questions on the ending. The resolution went rather quickly and I got a little confused.

  It came out in 1998 so seven years since I've seen it, I remember little about it now. I see it's out on DVD, possibly time for another look.
