...but I just never thought of Ingrid Bergman as sexy. Before you shoot me, I did think of Claudette Colbert, M. Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor as sexy...
Follow Ups:
in that movie at that time she was at the height of her considerable appeal....Too bad she hasn't aged well...
Bergman, Garbo, Grace Kelly and Catherine Deneuve are distant, beautiful on camara and are attractive for that reason. If one thinks of sexy as appealing only to an area between the legs, I agree. But I think attraction encompasses more than that.On my part, I never found (until The Misfits ) Monroe sexy (people who tend to fat excite me not). Bardot and Fonda (in Barberella ) were "sex kittenish" cute. Sharon Tate was beautiful and sexy both. But the one who got me going was Ursulla Andress, who was tall, lithe, moved like she knew what to do in bed, incredibly bright and very attractive besides. I do not know that she ever made a good movie! She invested so well she did not have to.
and unfortunately neither MM or Clark Gable would live a year beyond the release of the film; which makes the final scene all the more poignant

with one possible exception of young (very young) Liz... although her attraction disappeared quickly.
It was in the 1960s and, in keeping with my adventurous past, I was invited by a couple (the male of whom was a body guard for Liz and Dick) to come to Boston and join them for a banquet at the Copley Plaza.Liz did not come down until things were already going and she was certainly no longer the "dewey-eyed" beauty of National Velvet but the face, the pale skin, the raven hair and (it is close to true), the "violet eyes" were something the likes of which I have never seen again. Her face was mesmerising . . . and impossibly beautiful.
She left early and then (sorry, Liz) came the event of the evening, Hell, for me it was the event of a lifetime. After considerable liquid refreshment (for all of us) Burton began to hold forth; reciting Shakespeare from memory. Excerpts from the plays were remarkable but the sonnets were staggering. The Plaza did not dare run us out and we were there past 03h00.
Even thinking about it now brings goose flesh.
If ever there was a marriage made in Heaven and Hell alike . . . this was the one.
If ever there was a couple whose presence was electric; they were that couple.
If ever there was a couple whose performances are sorely missed . . . they are that couple.
Thank you for the nice story!
You wanna know who was quite arousing but never greatly considered so? Barbara Stanwyck. Not a classical beauty, but there was an aura about her that was quite gripping. And that bare mid-riff dress in The Lady Eve . Rowwr!
however, she turned into this thin, nasty, rather mannish creature...

I love her, but for some reason outside of her roles... all of them seem to fit her like a cheap Sears suit. When there is a film with her, my wife always calls me "Come over, "Yours" is on!"There was something real about her that you don't often see in Hollywood.
