There... I said it.
Follow Ups:
I found it boring and too much of a caricature to enjoy.

A caricature can be enjoyed.
...what is a clear sign of how worthy I found them. And I see no reason to see any of them again...
Regards
Maybe if I had seen part one first, I would have been more into part two. But, since I did not I can only comment on KB part two. What I observed was boring, predictable and somewhat of a rehash of QT's other efforts. After struggling through part two, I have no intention of viewing the first part.
viewing you'll notice a lot of touches that you'd not the first time perhaps from the shock of the blood.
Part Two is at least as good. Together, they're magnificent.
After all, it deals with the most primitive emotion, revenge. All of our society's laws, pretty much, begin and end with an elimination of that. The ending of this diptych will leave you smiling.
I really wish he would use his unique talent to come up with something of his own (that's good). KB part I and Pulp Fiction are very well done derivatives, no matter how well done. KB part II is not as memorable as part I IMO b/c part II lacks all the Japanese stuff, which was the strong parts.I really enjoyed the Japanese schoolgirl archetype with the iron ball weapon, the snow battle scene, the obsessive sword-making, and the memorable anime sequence. Unfortunately, every element has been seen repeatedly in Asian cinema over the years..
I thought that was the point?!

Well at least you did not recommend it...I saw only a short preview ( in part two ) and it look very conventional ( the scene when she is fighting with another woman at her home )

The movie has many weaknesses, but it has an undeniable beauty to it as well, something even my wife aknowledged. There are several moments that will brand into your memory, and you will carry them around like a bull. I would not rate extremely hightly the movie as the whole, even though it does have wonderful overall style, but the final duel scene is simply one of the best visual treats in my long memory. The ways it is choreographed, filmed and acted are all superb, and here we see the true potential of Tarantino the Master, something that unfortunately is usually burried under pile of his usual bloody trash. If Pulp Fiction had a few momorable moments, so does this one, except the caliber of those few moments is now higher.I truly wish the director dropped his silly obsession with being our little Pasolini and just let himself be a wonderful artist that he apparently can be.
Will be renting Vol. 2 soon enough.
I was going to ask above weather you'd watched pt. 1, 2, or both.Pt. 2 is inferior. It has much more dialogue and is more "human," but it's not as well crafted or measured as pt. 1. I don't buy the claim that the two parts originally comprised a single film that was merely cut down the middle. Such a film would have come across as having two halves, each striking very different notes. Pt. 1 benefits from being de-coupled from pt. 2; though maybe pt. 2 would have benefited from remaining joined with pt. 1.
I'd be interested to hear what you think.
I think you're praise of pt. 1 is right on. Very well choreographed and edited (a kind of choreography here, really) visual feast. It's the only film of his I really like, and I went to the theater prepared not to, or to find it as uneven as Pulp Fiction. Intend to revisit Jackie Brown.
From what I read here and elsewhere, it does indeed sound like Vol. 2 is a more conventional film stripped of some unexpected beauty found in Vol. 1. That would be a shame, as the Japanese theme was a good vehicle, but probably not the only one possible. My memories of Jackie Brown are pretty pale. Like you, I turned the KB on fully expecting not to like it. How nice that sometimes we turn out to be wrong.
First you admit to watching LOTR and now KB part 1? Hopefully this will not progress to a love of Leo's DiCaprio's efforts!
It gets worse. I watched the last hour of the movie three times already. So slap me, kick me...If I could, I would compress that one hour into about fifteen minutes of pure beauty and trash the rest.
Yes Pulp Fiction was at time very good, but this violence...

I'll say it again, through all the make-up, Mickey Rourke's performance is astounding...
it's a one-dimensional performance a la Gibson in "Payback."
This is one ugly movie that lacks any of the wit, inventiveness, or style that makes Tarantino so brilliant. Mickey? A vicious machine, more like a shark than a man. Compare that to the Travolta killer in Pulp Fiction, or Sam Jackson's.
Sin City is just ultra-violent entertainment, like Natural Born Killers. It'll justifiably be forgotten just as soon.
"This is one ugly movie that lacks any of the wit, inventiveness, or style.."What? Did you actually see this film? It's anything but lacking in inventiveness or style. In fact it's got more style then anything coming out of Hollywood.
Music is Emotion
Thanks for your opinion.
Don't forget: it's just that.
;0)
in this case becoming more human and liking goofball sillyness. Kill Bill is a hoot - the dopiest over the top film in years with goofball dialogue a paper thin revenge plot and downright bad...and despite all that -- wonderfully brilliant.
