Watched this DVD over the weekend. Been at least 10 years since I had seen it. Unfortunately, 10 years wasn't enough time to I forgoe how it ended, but I still enjoyed it. Sean Penn was great in this one - as strong a performance as his one in At Close Range, which I watched last month. Its amazing how much more dynamic Penn was as a young actor, as opposed to the one trick pony he has become (a la 24 Grams and Mistake River.)Timothy Hutton also put in a good effort in Falcon & the Snowman, although he was not quite as convincing as Penn imho. Whatever happened to Hutton? I recall after Falcon he made some really shitty movie - Turk 182 or something like that. Was that about it for his career?
Follow Ups:
That's about as powerful as Sean or anyone's gotten, period.
Tim Hutton has disappeared.
Back to Sean: How many excellent young actors who make memorable characters fade out? Even Marlon didn't do much after Last Tango. Same with Nicholson. Pacino. Caine.
I still have hope that Sean has one or two good roles in him; after all, Dead Man wasn't that long ago. Anyhow, I thought his performances in 21 and Mystic were fine, the direction sucked.
Interesting comparison - Penn and Pacino. Penn seems likes he's on sedatives in every flick while Al can't seem to stop yelling. :-)
