Yup, Machinist was somewhat inventive with the story line but the impressive part of the production is that Bale lost down to about 140 pounds--being over six feet that is skin and bones. The story threw in some requisite twists and turns about a man who has had insomnia for over a year. No spoilers as to why.Surprisingly, Bale is becoming the go-to-guy for weirdness. American Psycho, Batman, now "Insomnia Man". I think his severe looks will forever keep him from being a serious lead. He's a new Hopper, condemned to play that off-center psycho and do it well. Anyway, Bale delivers in his roles and I will continue to watch.
Follow Ups:
...but in that one he played straight man to Matthew McConaughey's nutcase.Hey! I took a guess at the spelling of Matthew's last name and thought: "that can't be right," and now I see I guessed correctly! I actually typed Woody Harrelson first. I never got the 2 of them mixed up before, but I could see Woody in that role.
