..R.I.P. Happy to see his name pop up here. I really liked him as an actor, and it is a shame we are not going to see more performances from him. Thought the Leslie Cheung/Tony Leung Chiu Wai match up in Happy Together was very enjoyable. Incredible also in Days of Being Wild, and the one thing that sticks out in Temptress Moon for me is the expression he had on his face when on th dance floor with Gong Li toward the end of the film. In fact, I'd say I've pretty much enjoyed him in all of his latter day films. Amazing how he developed from the barely serviceable actor he was in A Better Tomorrow. Any particular performance of his that pops out for you?
Happy Together is the one that really stands out for me. That film gets better every time I see it. Leslie possessed a great sensitivity that came through in his performances and made them special. His death certainly was a great loss.
nt
Auteil & Montand's performances, as in Manon des Sources.
Wonderful adaptations of Pagnol.
