I haven't seen the movie in years. For a couple of seasons in the early 50s there was a television series based on the movie and titled like the movie, "Life With Father". It starred, I believe, Leon Ames who made a career out of playing similar "father" roles such as he did in "Meet Me in St. Louis".For William Powell, see Mr. Roberts, where he played "Doc", one of his last if not the last movies he was in. The Thin Man series of movies are classics. BTW, also in the early 50s there was a Thin Man TV series, but who starred in it, I can't remember, though obviously it wasn't Powell and Myrna Loy. Another early TV series similar to The Thin Man was titled "Boston Blackie" which starred Chester Morris, maybe? Ancient and forgotten history now.
Follow Ups:
Getting myself curious I googled Boston Backie and find that Chester Morris starred in the movie series (which I didn't even know existed, such are the odd workings of the subconscious brain that Chester Morris came to mind), and someone named Kent Taylor starred in the TV show, 51 - 53. In the previous message I also thought I remembered a dog in the Boston Blackie series and the sleek convertible he drove, but then thought I was thinking about the Thin Man's dog, Asta. Well, Boston Blackie had a dog, too, named Whitey. I was four or five years old when those shows were on.
I remember watching that series but also didn't know there were movies as well.
