Once in a while I need a movie to shake me up a little.
Im not talking about blood, violence or war, but real life issues between people.
A film that might have the ability soften the hardened heart that the world seems so eager to give. Is there a film out there for me? It can be either foreign or domestic.(By the way, “The Straight Story” By Lynch, is that ballpark) Wonderful film with wonderful soundtrack. They went together very well to make a beautiful piece of art.
Follow Ups:
Quite funny, tender and touching in its quietly devastating way.I'd also vote for Tokyo Story and The Return, as well as a rarity from Oz called Innocence.
.
And this opens a floodgate - dozens upon dozens of great Italian movies... so many I don't even know where to start.
Much overblown movie.
Try "Breaking The Waves". One of the hardest to watch, yet compelling, films that comes quickly to mind.
How about Angela's Ashes? Real life issues. No gore. Probably didn't even have any gratuitous nudity. :) It was a while back that I saw it, but remember it being something you may enjoy seeing.
You know, I've been wanting to see that one, Thanks!

Same here... it is a worthy mention indeed. Not just for the story and the scenery, but also for the realness of the actors and the acting.
Also check her out in the darker films Dirty Pretty Things and the deceptively titled, He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.
Real emotions there!
....they all chained up, man.
And woman.
Is this an Italian film? If it is, I am interested. Any coastal or Mediterranean place sounds good.
Of what you are looking for...It was meant as a joke. A cruel one. But if one day you want to see something really made of a strong tobacco....Just think of " le divin Marquis " aka Sade.
And do a search here on this one.
Thank you for the rec.I brought up Sexy Beast because of the Location, I believe was Spain?
Anyway, I just loved the picture.
Have you seen " Babette´s Feast " ? That is a recommendation to your question....
You are welcome!
Thank you!Never heard of Babette´s Feast, but very glad to add it to my growing list of movies and reviews in my photocopy folder. I'm bored to death of the many movies coming out with the exception of a few good comic book releases.
This is why I ask the questions to try and find the many hidden gems. Especially from the asylum. Which happens to be the only place I go to to talk about stuff because it’s coming from a consistent base and from very classy people.
That leather faced sun bathing sexy beast guy was a trip! What a weird movie! I like how they added a worker kid in the mix of things. Added some tension. The pool and scenery of the ocean from that house looks allot like here, but I wanted to go there to see it.
Thanks Again!

How about "The Bridges of Madison County"?
Sorry but that movie hit me emotionally the wrong way. But yes, it is in a way what I was asking for.If the movie revolves around a passionate relationship between two lovers than I'll pass.
I'm looking for something a little more innocent that may even take one back to their childhood, or something that displays hope through suffering, trials, poverty, and with the hopes of having a strong family bond for encouragement. All this, or like it, I would like to see on film. (and the rest of the story)
How about "Sounder" (the original one)? Also, the guys here are on track with "Secrets and Lies."

"Also, the guys here are on track with "Secrets and Lies.")I'll definitely look this one up. "Secret and Lies"
I did a quick search on "sounder" This looks great! I like depression era films, and they have the feel I'm looking for. I'll write this one on the list. Thanks for the help Hodie!

so "real life" you will feel almost guilty for watching it like you are actually eavesdropping on peoples lives
Awesome cast, emotionally pulls every heartstring
No blood, violence, or war
...the final scene -- anyway the cookout scene -- was performed in one long take. Love that stuff!
Another one to ad to the list!

The weakest part of it, from an intellectual point of view is the way the director told us " do not believe in superstion " but actually endorse it.
In case of doubt he says, it can not be of any detriment. Hence he is like this old women, to use the typical cliche.
And so limit himself.
But not to forget he has to do a film of supranatural quality, and that is the conflict.
While being at time very predictable, I think it has a certain kind of typically " Spanish Charm " ...
It is somehow like a ghost of a ghost of a film. A highly moral film.
It has definitively a strong charm of his own.
I am curious how you will see it.
A warning : do not let the " civil Spanish revolution " too much influence you.
...very tender Finnish film, kind of tragi-comedy focusing on people's human qualities. Some lovely quirky moments.
Vic & some others here have seen it and liked it, I believe.
Yes very nice one.
Its not what one would expect from the title.

Thank you!

Just saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory at the drive-in. In the beginning, watching the interaction with the young boy and the many family members under one poor roof was actually touching! There was some emotion being stirred up there. So if that is the case, than I bet, wedding crashers might be good. B
If you want to stay foreign, then the Russian "The Return" (Vozvraschenie) is another great human film. There are many others, so I will step aside and let others bombard you.
Thank you but your recommendations are surly welcome so if you have more to recommend please do so! Thanks again,
You know I am not shy. So let me add some absolutely marvelous human films to the list today (also discussed recently) - the three works by Ermanno Olmi: Il Posto, I Fidanzati and The Tree of Wooden Clogs... the human films just don't get any better than these.I would also include in that list two works by Claire Denis: Beau Travail and Friday Night - the two are very different, but both superb and examine different facets of human emotions and interactions.
Thank you very much! That sounds like some great films. Will check Library first; they seem to have a great stock of dvd's. If I find one and watch it, I'll post what I thought about it.

I am waiting for the next work.
According to some minds here, you were not supposed to enjoy it.
