A young Reese Witherspoon in her first role plays the younger of two sisters vying for the affections of a new boy in their small rural town. Sam Waterston is the father in this film set in the mid-fifties. There are sub-plots and an unanticipated tragedy toward the end. All in all, an enjoyable coming of age flick.

"The Man in the Moon" was filmed in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where I am attending Northwestern State University. When the kids go into town, you are actually seeing downtown Second Street, with Lasyone's, home of the Natchitoches Meat Pie (accept no substitutes from Coushatta!) (no affiliation, etc.).
A good performance by Ms. Witherspoon, and a wonderful "small" film.
