I am glad I didn't pay $30 to see it in theater... $1.50 on Netflix is about the right price for it.A very few good moments do not compensate for two hours of near-boredom. And those were almost over-compensated for with several purely Hollywood moments of the worst kind.
Net result? About neutral. Completely forgettable experience. At least not too irritating.
Well, maybe it really should have been $1.20, so perhaps someone who liked it could sent me 30 cents so I would not feel cheated?
Follow Ups:
Tarkovski anyday.
What was that really long shot of someone far off on a cliff top that took about ten minutes to get to him?
THAT was boring!
I found it quite charming and humorous. Uneven, but a few really nice scenes.
In fact, your comments remind me of my friend's remarks about that Kevin Spacey movie "Pay it Forward." Something about the flick being so boring that Spacey should "pay me back" just for siting through the whole thing.
as I stated previously. This was not oscar material.
Music is Emotion
Most people liked thism charming film, as did most critics. I hardly think it is boring.
"several purely Hollywood moments of the worst kind."
How about the guy dumping the bucket of spit on himself?
thought it was hilarious and illustrated the anger and hurt the character tried to conceal behind his offensive manner(s).
Much later, we realize how much he still is in love with his former wife and the shock her pregnancy is to him.
His temper seems to fit in with your on-line persona...
I do not remember the scene. Which illustrates that the worth of a film can overcome a minor scene or two. I am not sure why one scene would ruin a film, lest you wanted it to.

I found it VERY irritating.
I didn't understand the hype either.
Jack
I thought it worth watching once, no more. Mildly entertaining, yet borderline a waste of time. A lot of hype for a very average movie in my opinion. Out of 5.... I'd give it a 2 or 3 I guess.
My wife and I tried to watch it after seeing the outstanding HBO film The Girl in the Cafe. My wife feel asleep and I gave up about half way through. I just don't understand the hype w/ this one. The actors all seem competent, but how much can you do w/ such a horrendous and hackneyed script?
an extended "groom's party" before one gets hitched.
The cerebral one looks forward to exploring an area and its wine with which he isn't familiar, and better getting to know a friend who has drifted away. The other, however, is looking forward to sowing wild oats, getting loaded, and helping his uptight friend get over a painful divorce.
Can't think of another movie with this "hackneyed" plot. Help us, will you?
The movie is about realtionships, something which some American men can't handle thinking about.
If you didn't laugh out loud at the wallet retrieval scene you need to proceed to the ER room right away, you may already be dead.
How about Without a Paddle for a recent example? Don't see the connection? A bunch of guys (usually white) resisting age and adult responsibility try to reclaim their youth on a road trip w/ old buddies. The scriptwriter pastes his/her philosophies prominently on the characters' sleeves. The difference was - Without a Paddle was fun, in a dumb way.Sorry, I didn't make it to the wallet scene. I bailed out during Giamatti's and Madsen's insipid dialogue sharing their deepest thoughts about their favorite varietals as a metaphor for sharing your deepest self w/ a new significant other.
I know we're (wife and I) in the minority on many of these movies. I don't know why. Anyway, try watching Sideways after seeing a revelatory and truly moving work like The Girl in the Cafe, and you might share our views.
