This one takes place in rural southern Italy in 1978. It involves a 10 year old boy who discovers another 10 year old who is being held in a well near an abandodned farmhouse. He begins to bring the boy food and drink and a friendship develops. He also begins to suspect that his parents are involved in the kidnapping. The victim is from a rich family and the kidnappers demand a large ransom. Eventually the the protagonist is caught assisting the victim, with near tragic results. Better than the book upon which it is vased. In Italian with yellow English sub-titles.

True story: I was just about to post on this film, having watched it last night. You must have e.s.p. I too enjoyed the film. The film has the trappings of a thriller, and the kidnapping certainly would seem to supply the fuel for such a film. But I liked that the film did not make the kidnapping the point of the film. A typical Hollywood endeavor would have thrown police chases, some action scenes, and maybe some random gunfire in such a story. Here, the kidnapping does not derail the flow of the film, and does not hi-jack what the film is really about: a ten year old kid's summer in the country. Certainly, we never see the actual kidnapping, the planning, and the execution of the plan. It is simply there, the point of it being to weave into the ten year old's daily life. Very original.
Basically an Italian B film, with not much to offer in any area.
