One of the best things about getting satellite I thought when it first was installed was that we'd get that lots of great indies and foreign. Well, after a year we're canceling.
Tonight is a great example: Raising Arizona is the primetime offering. Not too bad unless you note it's been on a gazillion times in just the last few months.
Really, a pathetic list of offerings is the norm.
Years ago, I watched their very clever ads featuring a Russian guy teaching a bunch of film students and thought I was missing something. Now, I am: a butt-load of money with but a few hours to show for it.
Netflix, here I come!
Follow Ups:
IFC has its good and bad periods, now not being one of the greats. But you still see things on IFC you don't anywhere else...just not as much in the summer. I do enjoy much of their original programming.
And what of the Sundance channel? Caring for a two year old pushes my film watching to 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. Sundance now runs Al Franken at 11:00 p.m., which means a film cannot begin a 10:00 p.m. either. Unfortunately, it appears they are pushing a political agenda at the expense of films.
I'm going Netflix and cancelling the satellite. Cable was a lot cheaper and I don't watch enough to make satellite worthwhile. 99% kaka.
For some reason the quality of their offerings took a dive, it seems.
Most pay stations (except HBO) are fairly lame. IFC does have some originals. I really liked its documentary: Punk Attitude.
