Both Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby won the Best Acting Academy Awards for their performances in this story of a washed up actor/singer trying to make a comeback in a new musical directed by William Holden. Crosby has surrendered all decision making to Kelly and she clashes with Holden, who is trying to give Crosby a chance ans also to stop Crosby's drinking. This is a very serious humorless film that is extremely well acted. It also won other Academy Awards for screenplay ands art direction. From 1954, remade as a TV movie in 1982. Recommended.
Follow Ups:
as hard as a grade schooler with a book report.
Shit can be well acted.
Recommended...why?
Put yourself in the readers' position: anything you shared make you want to rush out and see it?
You see a lot of movies and could be a resource for us all but you've got to tell us a bit more of W H Y we should see them.
Script? Cinematography? Surprises?
Heck, Academy Awards can mean something or nothing, you know that.
Since you see so many films, you must have formed some sort of measure which dictates your approval or disapproval of a film?
Don't be so lazy or shy...
I'm sorry that my contributions don't please you. The film is well acted and has an interesting story.BTW, I have my own style and will observe that many of my posts engender lengthy threads so I must be doing something right.
