Sports magazine ad sales VP Dennis Quaid is demoted and replaced by a young man half his age (Topher Grace) when the magazine is bought by a large comglomerate. Quaid's daughter, Scarlett Johannsen, begins dating Grace, much to the chagrin of Quaid. The many plot twists and bittersweet ending, while enjoyable, do not show a realistic view of American corporate life at least as I exprerienced it. Malcolm MacDowell has an uncredited role as the conglomerate's honcho, the legendary Teddy K. At least there' no cop out happy ending.
Follow Ups:
Not a bad movie in any respect actually fairly enjoyable. My gripe was I thought Quaid's charactor overdid the "chagrin" with his daughter dating the corporate hotshot.Wouldn't most dad's be very pleased their daughter was dating an up and coming successful businessman? Even if he were their boss?
Music is Emotion
I forgot to mention that I was not convinced that this was shot in New York City where it was supposed to take place and this was confirmed by the director;s commentary.
don't get ahead of older "in the trenches" workers?
The point of all "fiction' is its truth to the world its author creates.
It is axiomatic that you can show verisimilitude without aping it. Kind of like in a weak light you can see things best by slightly turning your head and seeing them out of the corner of your eye?
That would be altogether boring.
