I have read that off-screen, in private, Julie Andrews has a sexy, wickedly funny sense of humor. Unfortunately, nothing of that comes across in her late Seventies films with her husband ("10" and "SOB"). I agree...everything about the film within a film in "SOB" is a disaster. And she seems like just a rude prig in "10".But what I was struck by in your notes on "SOB" was your comment "fond memories of the time long past, now...". I couldn't agree more. I saw "10" the other night on cable. I didn't watch it for Dudley Moore or Bo Derek, etc. I watched it for the almost sideway glances at life back then...a life so quickly extinguished in so many ways.
Sometimes it is "The more things change..." But sometimes things change but they don't stay the same and everything is different so quickly.
Follow Ups:
Victor / Victoria this old remake ( many times ) from the German original is another story.
The first half or so is a wonderful success. J.A with Preston are a real treat.
I was wondering if you had received it yet!BTW, isn't Robert Preston just terrific in "SOB" and "Victor/Victoria"?
He plays his parts with such gusto!
Probably his best roles since Peckinpah cast him as the father in 1972's "Junior Bonner."
I will! But it has to wait a little bit as I must have at least fifteen books on the row.
RP is wonderful in his acting in V / V he play the homosexual part with such brio!
An under estimate actor.
