I've been postponing to buy a dvd player, but my recent trip to Tower Records with their vast choice of dvds blew my mind.
What do you think about recordable dvd devices(sorry, I'm a numbnuts about electronic names and labeling)? Are they coming, or should I just bite the bullet and spend the $2 now? I have a lot of Jazz videos on vhs, but wouldn't think for a second to buy them on dvd if the quality of the picture/sound was better.
Follow Ups:
that doesn't mean the calendar is on schedule (or vice versa).DVDs are considerably better than VHS. If for no other reason than double the graphics density & no grain. It's only debatable whether they're better than LDs, IMHO. They're coming along with digital stablized imagry (no jumping pictures), higher-resolution palettes (no banding), faster graphics-expansion engines (less frame dropping), progressive scanning (liquid motion) & digital-ready TVs which seem to double the oversampled lines (less pixelization, more analog).
So, feel secure in buying the DVDs.

Are dvds copy-protected? Will it be possible to dub them onto a future dvd-r?
Thank you.
However, I heard copying them to Beta was OK. Maybe it's format sensitive. Maybe PCs can do a bit perfect burn? But, with the advent of DVD-As, future coding is in the works. However, MP3 may eventually make copywriting moot to the industry. Whether it cripples said industry is another story (or chapter at least).
