Stopped by a friend's house last night and they were just about to watch this movie. I figured I'd hang out a while and give it go. Well, after struggling through the first 40 minutes I had to excuse myself. Anchorman was simply awful; not funny at all. And it wasn't that the jokes were too simple or too vulgar or whatever. They were just weak.Did Will Ferrell write any of the script? I assume he must have written (at least) a bit of it. After seeing a bit of this movie its clear why it had such a short stint at the theaters.
Follow Ups:
For a while there I thought that they weren't going to bring back the dog which would have really pissed me off.
I saw it a few months ago at my friends house. There are about four minutes of really funny material in the whole movie, not worth the wait.
The gang fight between the four different anchor teams was pretty clever, and Steve Carrell was pretty good.
