I too found the subject of a bunch of choirboys at a troubled youth facility not very interesting, but I took it out of my local library just to hear some French for awhile.
I was VERY surprised: this movie definitely deserves your attention. It is not smarmy, cutesy. You'll like it, I'll betcha.
Follow Ups:
Weak and weak from A to Z.
not so.
Just because a film has a happy ending it is poor?
The damaged life of the prefect, the way he won over the kids, the bad ending for the violent older boy, the loss of the prefect's job... not all sugar-coated.
Sometimes, life does provide a good ending. The governor of the state to which I'm moving had a terrible childhood, including forced interment in an orphanage where he had many problems. A Hollywood life, yes, but a "real" one.
You don't like the marvelous actor that played the prefect?
I thought the fact the prefect lost the beautiful mother was un-Hollywood, too.
Totally wrong. I much prefer am " happy end " as one when the next move you would like to do is to put a bullet in your head...
Did I said that I did not like the ending? I said I did not like the film at all.
I had a small review here, if i remember....
Is death a " good ending "....To have a pseudo un-Hollywood ending wonŽbe enough to make a good film BTW.
