worth all the praise. A quiet movie that sneaks up on you: you think it's going to be about the "gang" but it really is about the one lout and how it takes a family and a village to make a marriage (not much hope for city dwellers, as history has recorded).
What an interesting contrast in Italian "macho" from the oppositely pitched "Divorce, Italian Style" of De Sica.
I have a hard time really liking movies if the women supposed to be alluring... aren't. Let me say that Fellini's taste in actresses is superb. The somewhat long-suffering wife, the older love interest, the raven-haired party-girl... all gorgeous, different types of female beauty. What a feast for the eye and the intellect.
