and I think Howard's daughter is an interesting new face. Phoenix has an unpredictability I enjoy, something a bit sinister about him.
Though I think the "The Piano" guy overdid his role, I thought the pivotal scene in the cabin with Phoenix's character was explosive.
This film is about moods, symbols.... almost had a Wim Wenders feel to it. You probably wouldn't like the Japanese After Life or Wenders Wings of Desire, either.
Follow Ups:
comparing "The Village" to Wim Wenders?!? You either saw a different version of "The Village" or a different version of "Wings Of Desire" than I did.
"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
telling stories with a "message" and wherein symbols play an eminent role.
The Village, let's be clear, showed a group of traumatized individuals attempted to flee post-Paradise by creating a new one and how the seed of Cain and Abel (not to be too grandiose, or anything) accompanied them.
The innocence and courage of the girl moved me. Sorry, but I guess that makes me a sentimental schmuck.
