Threshold may not have the Everglades, but it won't leave you "swamped" by a thinly veiled Invasion of the Body Snatchers rip-off. :o)Both my wife and I liked American Gothic (Shaun Cassidy's earlier series) and was quite disappointed when it was cancelled after just one season, but Invasion is a different animal. For one thing, it's too manipulative, with stereotypical characters. For another, it's cheesy openning hurricane effects were some of the worst I've seen on series televion in the past 20 years (very disappointing FX; so much so that after we picked our jaws up off the floor we were rolling on it)!
BTW, the first episode even came across as misogynistic, but I'd rather not go into the various reasons why it left us with that impression. Let's just say that one episode was all we could stomach of those characters and leave it at that.

I saw promise in EPi one and posted same here. Epi II was, well, predictable. We saw Epi I of Threshold and will try to pick up on it next time its on.Cast yer politics aside and have a look at Over There. A pretty gritty one hour war series on FX. Haven't seen a weak episode yet. Intense, emotionally grabbing, and realistic. The many moral conundrums inherent in warfare rear their heads. All of the arab looking types are played by Iraqis. Of course, it may absolutely not be yer cuppa tea and YMMV and all those disclaimers....

...are rarely my cuppa tea; that's because they tend to be unrealistic while conveying too much conservative pro-military war propaganda. That's one of the reasons I strongly detest John Wayne's Green Berets and other bigoted films of his made during the early Cold War and Vietnam era.Nevertheless, like you've suggested, I'll keep an open mind and try to remove any preconceived notions about the political spin this series may weave into it's storyline and give it a chance. Note: I do selectively watch war documentarues on the History Channel now and then, because they tend to approach warfare, both ancient and contempoary, from an objective historical context.
BTW, we're also big fans of Rome (nice HD production) on HBO.

that came out in my "Pro War" days, before I became a campus radical. What a total fucking crock of manipulative porpagandist bull-shite that was. They might as well have had the VC eating American babies.Over There will show American Fukk-ups. Not every epi as they don't happen ALL the time. There was a great one a few weeks ago, where in an attempt to bring a measure of democracy and liberalism to a backward Talibanesque village in the middle of nowhere, they inadvertently gave a death sentence, by stoning, to an intelligent, fearless, beautiful woman who went against the Iman and other elders and advocated that the Americans and the contractors who rolled into town with them build a new school instead of a new mosque.
In Rome, the character Atia is fascinating. What a wanton amoral slut. I was muy happy Marc Antony told her off last week, "Evil Harpy" I believe were his words, and got off his scheming ass to go save Ceasar. Rome, Curb Yer Enthusiasm (excellent this week), and Extras makes for a nice Sunday evening in front of the tube at Casa Nasty.
