I enjoyed the orgional, seen late at night
it introduced me to a world I didn't know existed
film conventions ruin some films...gotta have the girl, the conflict
can't ever make a film that's visual poetry
that finds it's own time
the most biting review of a movie I ever read was some critic's praise of "The Abyss".
he said it was one the best 120 minute action / adventure movies he'd ever seen.
but unfortunately it was 135 minutes long.

"abyssmal" movie.
The unfortunate thing was that it was made in the first place. I hate movies where the science and technology is unknown and/or impossible. This was yet another movie where a director calculated that his target audience (undereducated teens) don't know science from comic books. Bad movies with big names may make money, but they are still bad movies.

  ...every science fiction movie ever made. "I hate movies where the science and technology is unknown and/or impossible." That's why it's called science FICTION, right? You've opened my eyes. Here are my new least favorite movies, because they involved "unknown and/or impossible" science:
  The Matrix
  All the Star Wars movies
  All the Alien/Aliens movies
  2001: A Space Oddysey
  Men in Black
  Terminator and Terminator 2
  Total Recall
  20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
  Boy, do I feel dumb for liking those movies all these years:)
