In Reply to: Just watched "Alfie"....has Jude Law ever turned in a performance worth watching? posted by TWB on October 13, 2005 at 14:28:13:
Gattica, Wilde, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Road To Perdition...even AI, in which - whatever you think of the film - he was bloody brilliant. These are all supporting roles BTW - Law always seems more interesting in off-center character parts, he always seems a bit restarined playing the lead.I didn't especially like Closer but Law was good in it (Clive Owen was riveting).
His cameo as Errol Flyn in The Avaitor was spot on.
Alfie is one of those movies that never should've been remade. Period.
Follow Ups:
I'll second Closer (I liked it just fine). Other than that he is just okay.By the way, Harmonia, I have lurked on this site for awhile and I must say you have outstanding taste in movies and music. Your recs, likes/dislikes, etc are in line with much of my own. And they are well articulated/defended.
...you have just proven yourself be a man of high culture and exquisite taste. :-)
You mean there are those that don't think AI is great?
...was brilliant. It was the Speilberg ending that ruined it.
Kubrick's part may have been brilliant; however Kubrick boosted the idea from a short story circa 1969. At least Spielberg's part was original.
