Just viewed the DVD last night and all I can say is that John Boorman was a bit ahead of the curve. Marvin's character hardly even speaks for the first 20 min or so. Single word conversations and almost science fiction composition in camera with unrelated audio overlay. Very cool. The end becomes a bit more predictable but overall an amazing film from that era.....................and Angie Dickinson had a wonderful ass back then.
Follow Ups:
PRIME CUT also with Marvin in a much more playful mood.
Plus seeing Sissy Spacek as a very young girl with some extended nude scenes. She was quite a looker then!

I just watched this a few weeks ago. A couple of points:
you are entirely right about the direction.
the picture quality was much better than expected.
you never actually "see" Marvin's charactor kill anyone.
everything about Angie Dickinson looked good. I hadn't realized she did a nude scene prior to watching it again.
