Audiohead, Jeff Morrow got off easy -- Phil Tucker, who directed the unbelievably inept "Robot Monster" was so depressed by his reviews that he attempted suicide after the movie's premiere! (He tried to shoot himself while drunk but was so wasted he missed... his gain was mankind's loss).In case you missed Robot Monster, this gem features some dude dressed in a gorilla suit and bubble helmet who plays a "Ro-Man"... part robot, part man... who is sent to earth to conquer the "Hu-mans"... who are half human and, uh, the other half human. Ed Wood may hold the reputation of "Worlds Worst Director" but watching this makes you believe that Phil Tucker subscribed to the Avis motto: "We try harder".
Sicko that I am, I'm making plans for a bad movie night featuring Angry Red Planet, Flying Claw, Robot Monster and Mars Needs Women (and any other el-crap sci-fi movies that you can suggest) for this coming weekend... proof that bad taste never goes out of style, and that I need to get a life. Crush! Kill! Destroy!!!

...Larry Buchanan. I'm completely in awe of this guy's work. He's probably best known for "Mars Needs Women" although I like his completely awful "Zontar, Thing from Venus" better. I've seen a half dozen of the at least 15 movies that this auteur made and in all that footage there isn't one single frame that's competently composed, not one second of even passable acting or writing. If you tried to make an intentionally bad movie you couldn't succeed as well as Buchanan did in every effort. A monkey given an Ariflex would eventually accidentally shoot a decent scene but even such random competence is completely absent from the Buchanan filmography. The guy's gotta be some kind of genius.
Genius and idiocy are on the opposite ends of the intelligence scale;
being polar opposities, they sometimes share superficial similarities,
which can be confusing. In Buchanan's case, let there be no mistake,
he's no genius! - AH
Although one could argue that it would take a genius to avoid even accidentally filming one single decent scene in a career that spanned 15 directorial efforts.
Rob, I knew you were joking. Perhaps "idiot savant" would be a
more appropriate label for Buchanan! Hehehe...

...but I think your guests would revolt and strike out at you. Like "Manos, The Hands Of Fate" and "Glen or Glenda", this is a truly bad film that drowns viewers in directionless boredom and lacks entertainment value.

Yes, bad movies both.But a movie that can top them both: The Creeping Terror (eg you can see the people inside the space monster reaching out to pull 'victims' inside the creatures maw, etc).
Another fun one: The Killer Shrews, getting its points on the creative use of dogs as the shrews

I'd recommend the MST3K version of 'Shrews. I've seen it both ways and the 'bots put it in entirely the appropriate context...joe
