This brand new digital transfer spreads the film over two discs for optimal picture and sound quality. The Amazon web site is misleading when it avers that the deleted scenes can be incorporated into the film through seamless branching. Not so. What can be accessed through seamless branching are little vignettes on how a particular scene or sequence was accomplished. On a happier note, Amazon does not mention that a 6 track DTS EX sound option is included and it sure sounds much better than the so so Dolby 5 channel effort on the original DVD.
There is a multiple array of extras like commentaries, making ofs, etc. Quite a package and attractively priced. There is seven an alternate ending called "Brock's epiphany".
Follow Ups:
If you are interested, go to the avsforum.com. There was a recent discussion there. It appears some folks are holding out for that one if I remember correctly.
I don't see what any diffrent version could contain that would provide more stuff. This one has a digitally remastered film certified by THX, DTS 6.1 channel sound, three commentaries, and a host of cast and crew information and making ofs. Are you sure they weren't talking about this version? The street dat was just a short time ago.
I am providing the web address to the recent discusiion. I am perhaps mistaken with this one and might be getting confused with another anticipated release of a different movie that came out a short time ago on DVD.
But I would actually buy the set if the deleted scenes had to do with historical events (Why does Cameron's film never make mention of the Californian, for example?) or if the scenes showed more of the ship instead of the fictional teenage romance. From what I hear though, this isn't the case. You just get additional scenes of "Rose" and "Jack" doing things even more insipid than what is portrayed in the theatrical version. And the set is apparently plagued with several annoying glitches.I'll pass on this one. I'd sooner buy an extended version of LotR than watch DiCrapio and Winslut screwing around in a boiler room.
The deleted scenes do show the radio room og The California. The sequences were cut for reasons of pacing.
I would say that about half of the deleted scenes have to do with the actual sinking. And some of the other ones are about the romance between Fabriziom and the Swedish girl, only hinted at in the final release.
***Quite a package and attractively priced. You mean they give me a tenner if I agree to take it home?
Lemme think... naah... maybe $20?
I paid $19.49 plus shipping at Amazon.com.
Special Edition - instead of a dvd in the package you open it up to find a $20? You might be on to something there VK.
