Robert Young, best known for his TV roles as Jim Anderson in Father
Knows Best and Marcy Welby, M.D., appeared in 100 movies from 1931
to 1952. Although handsome, he never got the girls because of his
blandness, i.e., near-zero sex appeal. One of his better roles was
as Langdon Towne, in Northwest Passage(1940),with Spencer Tracy and
Walter Brennan. His film career began in 1928 with an uncredited
appearance in The Campus Vamp. His TV career ended in 1988.
Robert battled with alcoholism and depression for many years, and
in 1991, attempted suicide unsuccessfully. He was married and had
four daughters. The final curtain fell on Robert in 1998 when he
died of respiratory failure at the age of 91. ~AH
Follow Ups:
He had also a good time with G. Cooper as film partenair. He looks good when...young and was getting like a poupon with time passing.
I think he missed to make it " big "...
Wonder why he failed to hit it big? Too much outstanding competition?
Lack of rugged sex appeal, as Louis Mayer alledged? Just look at some
of the leading men during his tenure. ~AH
Ray Milland and him were in the same league, my preference goes to to RM, he was more consistent, I feel...

"Ministry of Fear " F. Lang ( Graham Greene )is one that I like very much, not very well know and a bit outdate, still I love it!
