I was really disappointed. A shallow, one-dimensional and PC portrayal of the Crusades. No characters, just flat caricatures. The design and the costumes were the best part of the movie. Were those things trebouchets or 105mm howizters? Couldn't someone have told them that things didn't blow up in the 12th Century.Ridley Scott wasted an opportunity to a put a historic context behind current events. A great set and pretty good cast were wasted. He'd have done better to do a good remake of "Prince Valiant"!

...but I enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven. I didn't take it as history, but as a parable. I even enjoyed Orlando Bloom's understated performance. In September I also happened to visit the factory in India where they made the swords and helmets, etc. for the film. That was pretty fascinating!

An incredible meandering waste of talent and resources. And meandering is what Orlando Bloom's character does for two hours, meandering through Jerusalem without purpose or a cause. Then he becomes a military genius in the last half hour. The film would have been better if they told it from the P.O.V. of Salahadin (he spared the Christians, was regarded by muslims as a minor historical figure and betrayer).
for the part.Rumor has it that the movie was severely cut down for theatrical release, and an "extended edition" will be released next year (approximately 4 hours long).
More material to develop the story will help, but it won't address most the movie's shortcomings.
