It's been a while since I sat and watched the whole thing. Now you've pequed my interest. I'll have to hunt down my copy and look again. By the way, did you notice the spurs? Yes, Nickelson nearly stole the movie from Fonda and Hopper. I have to wonder if Hopper knew this and killed him off early, but it's an important forshadowing so I guess it's necessary. Too bad they didn't beat Fonda instead. Would have loved to see Nickelson playing "Captain America", and using that madman Hopper as a foil. I never liked any of the Fondas, but American Movie Classics has been running "Twelve Angry Men" over and over this year, and the cast and script is great, even with Fonda playing God. Love those black and white films. The music is great though isn't it? Really a classic western film. You know, one of my favorite westerns of all time is "Once Upon A Time In the West", but it's tragically flawed: the score has to be the worst ever in film history. I'd love to have a copy without music. If you haven't seen it, put it on the top of your list, and buy it.
Think I've seen "Once Upon A Time In The West"; it a good one, Italian
produced and directed? If I remember correctly, is it the movie with
the all-star cast, with extremely long close-up shots of their faces and
every little twitch and nuance of those faces at the movie's beginning?
I'm not a big fan of the Fondas either; thought Henry was OK as U.S.
President in "Failsafe", a high-tension movie (BTW, Larry Hagman played
the Soviet President). If you get a chance, take a look at "The Trip"
a movie about Peter Fonda experiencing his first acid trip; made in 1964 or
65, and scripted by Jack Nicholson! (Once should do it...)
I feel the same way about "High Noon" as you do about "Once Upon a Time..."
but not because the score was so bad, rather because it never stopped, even
in the quiet moments! Geez, give me a break! - AH
