Hey Rico!May have possibly erred in saying that the spider used in "The
Black Scorpion"-1958 was one used by O'Brien from "King Kong"-1933.
Actually, may be partially correct. Hamish, at message boards
at KongisKing.net stated that he'd seen the stills and compared them
to the TBS spider and saw a general bodyshape similarity, but stills
weren't clear enuff to render a fairly definite judgement on more
refined aspects of the spiders. Hamish said that it's likely that
the TBS spider may have been an armature, minus coverings, retrieved
from KK, because (1)armatures are most expensive parts and (2)coverings-hair etc. disintegrate more quickly over time. (BTW, supposedly Jackson created a new spider sequence for the remake.)
Follow Ups:
Hey AudioHead,Supposedly Peter Jackson recreated the spider sequence for an extra to be included on the bonus disc of the restored King Kong, due out on DVD next week! It's a pretty good indication of how much PJ reveres the original film and should bode well for his own version.
The way I understand it, this is will be included on the bonus disc along with a documentary showing how the original Kong was built and photographed. In Jackson's remake (scheduled for theatrical release next month), I believe there is such a sequence in the new version, but it isn't stop-motion photography and apparently it won't be spiders (I believe Jackson has opted for giant digitally created centipedes).
Of course this is still speculation based on what has been officially and unofficially posted on other film sites, but it makes sense. If I learn more and the infomation is reliable, I'll gladly post it here.
