I loved the quirky dialog and characters (both Michael Moriarty and David Carradine) in that film! Show it on a double bill with "Rodan"; even with English dubbing, the tragedy of the narration comes through like "Frankenstein".
I don't know what made me rent that one, since I abhor this entire genere, but that movie was strange even by "monster/horror" criteria.
"Lair of the White Worm" was typically weird Ken Russell filmmaking. My girlfriend reminded me that this was the first film we saw Hugh Grant in, but I only remembered Catherine Oxenberg in underwear and Amanda Donohoe in very little.Other horror recommendations:
If you want quirky, rent "The Prophecy" with Christopher Walken.
For astonishing visuals, rent Dario Argento's "Suspiria".
