Celluloid-humpers,Saw this last night and I'm still not totally sure what to make of it.
Cusack and Platt are terrific in their respective roles (especially Platt), but Billy-Bob seems wasted to me.
I've heard compaisons between this and 'Bad Santa" and I think those who are making the comparison didn't see either film.
If you are looking for a dark, violent, moody, dirty film with a predictible ending...not a bad 89 minutes.

Follow Ups:
It was reasonably entertaining but wasn't really about anything and there wasn't really a point.P.S. the print I saw was fine.
"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
sjb,I think it was the theater that I saw it in. Funky lighting during the showing was distracting to me.
The end of the film (no folks, not going to give it away...sheesh) was so easy to predict.
Connie Neilsen is a horrible actress. Even Gina Gershon would have done a better job than her in that role.
Was Randy Quaid looking a tad on the "in serious need of a stairmaster" side, or is it just me? He looked like he ate Dennis.
Harold Ramis is not known for this type of film, and while it wasn't the worst film I saw this year by a longshot, he needs to work on the character development and plot just a tad more before trying something this indie again.

I liked Bad Santa- it was a dark comedy that was funny. This had some comedic touches, but few. The whole amoral tough guy thing has been done much better many times. The crooks can't trust each other, we've seen that before. It was rather flat and uninvolving. Compare to Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or (of course) Pulp Fiction. This was missing the sharp dialog. I expected more.
Tune,I agree on the Lock Stock for sure.
Was your print overly dark, or are my eyes just getting worse?
That was one of the darkest prints I've seen in a long time and I saw Ice Harvest in a brand new theater.
Did you know that a Mercedes S600 was that spacious? I didn't.

Didn't notice that at least, it was winter and a lot of it was inside dark clubs, the lighting seemed appropriate, didn't give it a thought. The Mercedes part actually was kind of funny. It had its moments, just not so many. For British tough guys earlier this year, I really liked Layer Cake. And for tougher than tough, I also liked Sin City.
