Read Dune but saw the Lynch movie.
I never read Lord of the Rings but watched five minutes of one of the films I don't know which.
I read about a chapter of Harry Potter something or the other and never saw a Harry Potter film.
I read about two chapters of Dan Brown's DaVinci Code (probably one of the worst writers ever, coming on like an adult Harry potter book or something) and I seriously doubt I'll go see Hanks in the film version.
There's probably something seriously wrong with me, I guess.

...is not great literature or great films, but...popular culture and some of things interesting people talk about when they're together.
Let's see what you're missing -
Dune was a fascinating book and won an important award. The movie was pretty bad, but interesting if you read the book.
LOTR were interesting books that everyone seemed to read in college - except me. The films were interesting.
Harry Potter books have been read by about every kid in the country and a lot of their parents. I suspect you have no kids at home. I read the first book - not particularly well written but have done more to encourage kids to read than all the English teachers in the US - and have seen all of the movies with my family. The last two we saw in IMAX. Intersting stuff.
Da Vinci Code was a very interesting book and was on the best seller list for at least a year. I enjoyed it, but then I like mysteries and have read many that were more poorly written. The film should be fascinating.
Hope you were spending your time reading the classics and watching foreign films.
***Da Vinci Code was a very interesting book and was on the best seller list for at least a year.Well, I thought it started sorta intriguing, went out of steam through about 30% and then quickly became just boring... had to force myself to finish it.
I suspect the film will be even worse.
That a book like that stays on whatever list for whatever time only speaks of current public tasts, not its quality.
I believe the Airport also stayed there, but man, is it trash!
Is that you are right.
All that commercial shit just makes one too lazy to watch & read the works that really matters.
all worthwhile stuff and seen all the best indie and foreign flicks.
I've never understood the argument that good books are somehow "work" to read. I look upon them (and good movies) as having a conversation with interesting people. Who would ever talk to a teenage moron if they could talk to... Tolstoy or Kubrick?
I believe, books are as theater to motion pictures to be one " class " higher, intellectually speaking. Most of the time.
Bien sure it depends of the work! I mean with that, that a Bergman is still so much better than a " Ken Folett " or so...
Some teenage morons have nice asses...
As for your " Leo* " I dunno....He-he...
...or maybe it was sole, or Seoul, if your name happened to be Kim Jong-il, but anyway, it's a good way to start your 12 step program! :o)
...
You like some books and some movies but not others? Yes, people like different things. What does this matter?
/*Music is subjective. Sound is not.*/
Except for "The da Vinci Code", I'm with you all the way.
