I’d like to see this. It actually (from the small clips I see on the news) looks rather interesting.
Sounds like a few have their panties in a bunch.I know the relationship between most city councils and city police and it usually isn’t pretty. Especially in a city like SF. So most likely its pretty much harmless. Personally I think it makes for good moral.
I like how the small clips look on the screen.
Follow Ups:
...much of the video was done on city time. These cops are public servants on the city payroll. Part of their job is creating a favorable image for the department and the city, particularly in the area they police. In the video they poke fun at homeless people, minorities and women - the very people they are serving and protecting. Many people in SF, particularly in the Bay View area where these cops operate, are poor, minority and live in heavy crime/gang areas. There is much distrust of the police here already.
While this video is not such a big deal that anyone should be fired, IMO, the cops involved, especially the guy who made it and put it on his website for public consumption, used very poor judgement and deserve to be disciplined.
Think of the company you work for. Let's say you made a video spoofing your customers to 'raise moral' among your group of employees and then made it public.
You would probably be fired and your customers would chose not to do business with your company possibly putting it out of business. Right?
Interesting... I would like to view it. Any link?
...I live in the Bay Area and have just seen the parts they play on the evening news and have read about some of the rest in the newspaper - like the part where the Black cop drinks from a dog dish and the Asian can't ride a bike.Hope those images raise your morale...
The cop who made it is named Cohen. It was on his web site. You can try finding it but if he has half a brain, he took it down.
The irony is that about 6 months ago the head of PR for the '49ers made a similar, racier video spoofing minorities, women, etc. Parts of it were all over the TV and newspapers and he was fired very publicly. Apparently these cops didn't learn anything from that incident.
Thank you. I remember the 49'er video. I live in Santa Cruz County and politics are very similar to that of SF's. The council and Police department show signs of friction, and the city adding an office of compassionate giving (Pot Distribution Office) funded by taxpayers during a time of financial trouble and cutting police funds. :o Not a good mix lol.
...we have had a weekend place in Santa Cruz for 20 years so I'm very familiar with the politics there. IMO, SC is more similar to Berkeley and that makes SF look conservative in comparison. The SF PD has been an old boy network and has been plagued with problems for years and years ("fajita-gate" a few years ago was only the latest example). Mayor Newsome is apparently using the video scandal as an opportunity to investigate the issues within the department from top to bottom with a 'blue-ribbon' panel. We'll see what comes out of it...
...being made to behave as PC nannies in San Francisco great Social Experiment rather than law enforcement personnel.
I had a feeling thats what it was... and those trying to control dont like it... plus they hate cops. Sheesh... I hope the dept makes money off this video and no trouble comes their way.
