CK has so much buildup that it IS a letdown the FIRST time through. A good way to approach it is to watch "RKO 281", about the making of CK. Then watch the documentary "The Battle Over citizen Kane". Then go through CK with Ebert's commentary. I'll bet you end up with a real appreciation of why many of us consider it the greatest film eve made.

The commentary and documentary on "Rashomon" will yield similar results.

Please don't give up on these two masterworks.
