Flame me if you must, but having seen it twice last weekend, I consider "High Fidelity" to be required viewing for all inmates. The two supporting characters who work in Cusack's character's record store ("Championship Vinyl"), whom he calls "the musical moron twins," are the paradigms of folks who have mastered to great depth a body of totally useless knowledge about an arcane subject.I am not a John Cusack fan at all; but I thought he was really good in this. The rest of the cast are unknowns to me, but they have one thing in common -- they can act. Even the pretty ones. One of the cast members is a dead ringer for Catherine Zeta-Jones. The way you can tell them apart is that this lady can actually act, unlike Michael Douglas's wife, who is all eye candy.
I'm sorry, I did a search before I made this post. Only a little comment about this film.
It deserves more.

Follow Ups:
This came up a couple of months ago, good film, but I think any vinyl inmate would love the book. The book goes into all sorts of detail for the vinylholics. I far and away prefered the book which instead of Chicago, took place in London.
I saw "High Fidelity" last week being motivated to see it after reading the book of the same name on vacation. I came away feeling similar to my reaction to the book; that it was entertaining and had some good insight to human character. But, if the lead, John Cusack, had done the acting job of the supporting cast the movie would have been a stand out. He distracted me more than adding to the film.
This is a "straight" question.I'd be interested in your reasons.
Thank you.

"Q-tips (tm) work great!"
I watched the first two-thirds of this movie before I decided to bail. What genre is this flick? Comedy? Romantic Comedy? Drama? I will say this, the film had a promising plot. This guy many of us can relate to was fixing to dive into his past failed relationships. Sounds like fun. But the movie goes nowhere. No big laughs, no emotion, just guys hangin' out, er, uh, I mean working at the record store.
If you can't say anything nice, say nothing.
...if lightweight. Only discordant element for me: That Joe Black should have been revealed so late in the proceedings as a terrific singer. At all the many records stores I know, that never would be the case.clark
Agreed, a quality film with quality acting and quality writing. The Soundtrack CD is mighty fine, too.
So I thought, so my daugther thought. But why was she not listed in the, admittedly confusing, credits?
Puzzled in DC.

I thought I saw her name as the last one on the credits (alphabetical), but I could be wrong. Maybe I was too excited by Springsteen getting a movie credit and I got confused.
this Catherine Zeta-Jones thing! Here's the straight scoop (from MrShowbiz.com): "But his onscreen love — including Lisa Bonet, Joelle Carter, Lili Taylor, and an uncredited Catherine Zeta-Jones — are too vibrant and three-dimensional to merely be tossed off as projections of Rob's inadequacy."
So, you're right; my daughter's right; but I have a good excuse for being wrong!
Will you buy that?
have a nice day!
