The midnight shows were low - school night, and in a lot of places in the country (like my city) there was snow, sleet and freezing rain. Who wants to skate home at 3am on a schoo night? It ain't gonna make the (too high) December opening predictions of 110-120 million, but it'll do all right.
I also don't rely on Drudge for reliable info on anything, much less movies. Box Office Mojo is more helpful with flickers.
Follow Ups:
That's where the story is from...
KK probably won't hit 100m for the 5 days - probably more like 75-85M. Only so many showings per day per theater with a 3 hour flick.Actually I hate all the BO reporting - winners and losers shit. It should be irrelevant. Either a movie is worth going to see or it's not.
With KK, expectations were high, and probably unrealistic.
OTOH, I bet Universal has spread the risk around with foreign distribution rights, tie-ins and home video.
I agree---I just noticed that Drudge got his story from Mojo when I went to see the "bombed" story that was mentioned here. It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other.I just watched the original Kong on TCM, and I'm Konged out at the moment---I don't know if I can last through another 3 hours of it anytime soon. I might wait for the inevitable DVD.
