The Good...1. Well developed relationship between Kong and Anne Darrow...(some people in the audience openly wept at the ending)
Agreed: They didn't go overboard with Kong being too human like. He was very scary at first and very unpredictable. They kept him mostly apelike (with one exception).
2. Some BEAUTIFUL scenic shots...especially the ending with Kong on the Empire State Building...
Agreed x2. This is what made this movie extremely worthwhile. I would say that the icepond scence even more so.
3. Naomi Watts (the poor-man's Nicole Kidman)
Partially agreed. Naomi was great and I don't know why you call her a poor man's Nicole Kidman who isn't exactly the best actress in the world. Just because they're from Australia?
4. LOVED the overall look of the film!!!
Agreed except for when it was bad: the stampede, the pole vault and some of the bugs.
5. Some great CGI scenes....especially the boat landing on Skull IslandAgreed. The boat landing was great but see above. My son laughed at the big dino stumble and I laughed at the T-Rex swing-set. The machine gunning of the bugs was laughable too. However, the scenes were also amazing and scary and/or tense too. Despite the disconnect, it wasn't enough to pull me out of the movie so that I didn't care what was going on.
The Bad
1. Jack Black...he can play mediocre comedy...but was entirely miscast in this role!
Agreed. Who would you think would be better however? Was it Jack or the role?
2. Someone explain to me who decided that Adrian Brody is a Leading man!!! Please... this guy has all the sexuality of a wet-noodle!
I don't agree. I think it was the role. Cerebral writer all of a sudden becoming action hero was over the top (but not unusual for this type of movie). The New York scene when he tries to draw Kong off was just plain bad.
3. Can you say CGI....the dinosaur stampede and bug scenes were meaningless and didn't add depth to the story line other than 15-20 minutes of at best mediocre special effects!Agreed, see my comments above. Except I did like the bugs. They were scary though not convincing enough when they interacted with the live action.
4. Where did they dig up those natives!!!! THEY were scarier than Kong!!!!
Agreed. Very good scenes when the film crew first landed.
5. And finally...HEY Peter Jackson!!!! Can you tell a story in less than 3 hrs??? I didn't think so.....Agreed. Many subplots including the filmmaker and the crew were unnecessary. Some of the crew subplots disappeared. Needed to be about 45 minutes shorter.
Overall--lots of fun. Great matinee type feature.
