Paul Newman vehicle, "Harper."
If you like Newman, he's at his muggy, winking, ingratiatingly "best" in this action/thriller.
By all means, and for different reasons, do not miss the horrendous sequel, The Drowning Pool, starring the worst New Orleans accent ever. Tony Franciosa should have been forced to march naked down Bourbon St. for his portrayal of a NO detective.

    brave vicious thug, the cowardly but well-meaning soldier, the slut with the heart of gold, the slick, cynical gambler with the paid-for, catty wife--- lots of clich�s to go around but it works, at least for me. The quality of the actors, of course, helps. A sterling cast, as I recall, with Richard Boone, Eli Wallach, and others.

    Hud is one of my all time favorites.
    
    A great cast. Many great lines that are a bit foggy right now . What are the lines?
