Other then "Jackie Brown" ... Don't you think Deniro has been prolifically sleepwalking through most his parts for almost ten years? I have trouble interpreting his characters with his small gamut of grimaces and monotone delivery.He kind of ruins the movie for me now. I wouldn't call it "top-notch".
Was there *really* a difference between his readings in Ronin & Heat & Meet the Fockers & Men Of Honor & The Score & Hide and Seek & Showtime ?
he acted similar for the previous ten years. I got tired of his cookie cutter 'tough/murderous/sorta crazy' roles like in Goodfellas and Casino. I will give him 'Deer Hunter' though, even though he was a bit like that in there too.

Bobby hasn't been at his best for awhile but I thought he was pretty good in Heat--- and the same holds true for Al.
Bobby should branch out to European cinema. Brando came back after a long decline in Last Tango. I don't know why DeNiro doesn't team up with one of the fine "art" directors around in so many countries (hell, we have some right here at home!).
I guess he's quite the mogul in NYC. Maybe he just doesn't care and is content to cruise on his laurels, confident of his place in history? 'tis a pity, if that's the case. He does have rare talent.

Look at fellow New Yorker (and Heat- ian) Al Pacino.He seems to be pushing the envelope after all these years. I thought he was terrific in "The Merchant of Venice" and really good in "Insomnia", "Devils Advocate", "The Insider", "Donnie Brasco", "City Hall" etc.
I mean, he's still "Al" but he brings a new gesture and accent to the table....and certainly a bundle of raw, hungry energy.
Pacino is still interested in the art of acting, still puts his all into it. Even in a fairly mediocre film like "Two For the Money", he delivers his lines with great verve, inhabiting a not very likeable character with great charisma, depth and vulnerability. He still has it, even if the charlatan/power monger aspect of many of his recent characters seems somewhat similar. I agree DeNiro could phone in most of his roles the past 10 years. Too bad, but still too soon to write him off. I hope..."You think you got it bad? I'm in here with a guy thinks Wyoming is a country"...
