>>> "Woody should stick to comedy." <<<No offense to the dissenting reviews, but I respectfully disagree with these opinions. The casting was perfect and plausible; no one in our audience found unintentional amusement at Scarlett Johansson & Rhys-Myer's performances at our screening (as per sjb's comment below). If anything, the awkwardness between the two in light of the class and cultural distinctions at play adds more credibility to their performances.
Not only did my wife and I enjoy this film, but we completely agreed that this is a work of genuine art and it's on our list of DVDs to purchase when it's released for home video. I should probably mention that the audience we saw this film with applauded at the conclusion, which is a good indication that the film worked perfectly as Woody intended. Excellent performances and a wonderful ironic plot twist.
BTW, my wife doesn't usually like Woody Allen's films because the self-depricating ethnic humor becomes predictable after awhile and comes across as whiney to her, so this has caused her to rethink his talents.
Bottom line: Highly recommended! (**** 1/2 on a ***** star scale)

"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
Just curious, as I do not have any feel for their ratings.
They overall rating for very good movies is usually very good... same with very bad films in reverse. But there are plenty of films that get overall good ratings that I don't care for and plenty that get overalll poor ratings that I enjoy or even think are excellent films.I like the site because it's such a handy way to see what the consensus is and/or to find any single reviewers take on something. I don't see or not see films based on reviews but I do enjoy reading them.
"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
is that they compile opinions from a number of sources. Therefore, the actual percentage number itself is not too useful, but the actual website itself is extremely useful. For example, Joe Blow from genericreviews.com is probably not worth listening to. But there are links to reviews from most major newspapers, and in most cases you can follow the link and read the whole review. Sometimes there is a consensus and sometimes there is not. For a real strong split, look at the reviews for The New World- half say it is dull and the other half say it is visionary.
