Follow Ups:
Just curious, as I do not have any feel for their ratings.
They overall rating for very good movies is usually very good... same with very bad films in reverse. But there are plenty of films that get overall good ratings that I don't care for and plenty that get overalll poor ratings that I enjoy or even think are excellent films.I like the site because it's such a handy way to see what the consensus is and/or to find any single reviewers take on something. I don't see or not see films based on reviews but I do enjoy reading them.
"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
is that they compile opinions from a number of sources. Therefore, the actual percentage number itself is not too useful, but the actual website itself is extremely useful. For example, Joe Blow from genericreviews.com is probably not worth listening to. But there are links to reviews from most major newspapers, and in most cases you can follow the link and read the whole review. Sometimes there is a consensus and sometimes there is not. For a real strong split, look at the reviews for The New World- half say it is dull and the other half say it is visionary.
