  As mishmash indicated, Burnt by the Sun kinda sounds close, but with some discrepancies, of course - it was set in the late thirties, not after the revolution.

    I was wondering if you might have brought this film to my attention in the past.

    At any rate, a friend of mine didn’t know the title but recommended this to me. He remembered how good it. And now I'm on the hunt.
