to Hollywood fare.
No fancy camerawork, overbearing music, baths of blood, outrageous speechifying before killing, just a good "B" grade movie which eschews just about all of the detective genre's clichés. Andy Lau (who also directs) and Tony Leung are excellent as dual undercover--- one in the police, the other in the mob--- enemies engaging in a clever cat-and-mouse.
You'll especially enjoy the portrayal of the chief detective who almost steals the show from his talented associates.
