And a fairly good plot/story. This was a good revelation for what my system is capable of, I'd have to say Braveheart (same genre) didn't look nearly as film-like as this DVD.

the story was great. I liked how Maximus' life turned 180 degrees from a general in Rome's army to a gladiator merely for the twisted enjoyment of the crowds. The power struggle between Maximus and Commodus before the "mob" in the colliseum was yet another facet in the exciting and dangerous setting of the games. I think there could have been more interaction between the Aurelius' daughter and Maximus (good for character development)...and why can't we get a happy ending (is this based on fact?)...ands the 1 hour documentary on the games was great.
I love this movie, I just got a 64" HDTV and it looks and sounds nearly as good as when I saw it at the movies. The main differences are I can put my feet up and there is no gum under my seats. I took my moniker from the opening battle scene where "he" says "upon my mark unleash hell", that was a great line!
