more range (and I've left out some other very good performances, too) and skill than any other actress working today.
Meryl Streep dominated her day in English language filmmaking and now Nicole has inherited the mantle.
I'd be curious if anyone here has a better candidate.
(I admire Paltrow but she hasn't the track record, yet, and she's currently preggers so she won't be galloping to the front anytime soon).

She is the weak link in almost all of those films.Imagine Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz in any of those Kidman roles ... Dogville especially! The result would be a more balanced films with a clearer character reading.
She was passable in "Dead Calm" and good in "To Die For". I'll grant you that.
Kidman is one of the most overrated actresses today and always has been. She shows NO emotion or range whatsoever. Hell Angelina Jolie emotes about a thousand times better. In the very films you sited she just shows up and collects a paycheck. Talk about cold as ice....

She was also very good in "Flirting" opposite Thandie Newton. Both of them were very young and pretty at the time.

haven't seen The Others, either.
Her performance in it, when as a mother she realizes her children are in mortal danger, is as "hot-blooded" as humanly can be portrayed. Well, you like Angelina, enough said.
Yes, I did and to call Dogville anything other than dogshit is a complement is doesn't deserve. The Others was a joke.
How about Birth? That was almost as much dogshit as dogville.
Stepford Wives? Ha!
Sorry, Kidman should be the laughing stock of the acting world.
And I didn't say I love Jolie I was just using her for an example.

Her VERY early promise evaporated quickly. I would just as much enjoy looking at wallpaper.
girl-woman who is destined never to grow up (think Sandra Dee without the curves).
See "Dead Calm" and see how red-blooded the redhead can be... and this was in '89! A major talent, already, at that age in a rather mundane thriller, though with two damn good other actors.
Eyes Wide Shut: a crappy movie but... she had me quite interested, especially in those scenes where she walked around in her skivvies.
But the fuckability index ain't what a female actress should be rated, talent-wise, on... is it?
Where would Bette Davis be, then? Or Keaton, Streep, Davis (Judy and Geena), and many others?
Kidman often plays strong women and, to some men, that's a "problem."
Of course, there are plenty of Ang Jolies and other candy for those guys...
her one and ONLY decent film.

How did you know?
I thought the woman in Knife in the Water was fetching....

... has so many hiseous pictures...
I guess the camera just doesn't like her!
..would YOU marry Tom Cruise?
... and presumably money and a contract was part of the agreement.
I still find it hard to comprehend how in this day and age someone like Cruise has to put up a pretense of being heterosexual.
..everything will be ok, like Monty Clift & Tony Curtis.
Only they were better actors, of course.

... I'll say it again. I think her best suited role was Bewitched. To me she has a natural look for that role (witchy, not in a good way). As for her other movies:
-Moulin Rouge. Both my wife and I couldn't watch more than 20 minutes. I VERY rarely don't watch any movie through. This one I could not.
-The others. Enjoyed it, but somewhat forgetable.
-Dogville. Never seen it.
-Eyes Wide Shut. Also turned it off. Crap (to me).
-Dead calm. Barely remember it, too long ago. Remember enjoying it somewhat.
-The one she recently made with Sean Penn. A bit disjointed I thought (the movie).
I don't remember her acting being anything memorable in anything I've seen.
What a role. She nailed that part, as she did the tramp., and a very sexy tramp she was, in the movie with Anthony Hopkins (forget the name). She was broke, and you knew she just wouldn't get fixed. Angelie Jolie in that role? I don't think so. Laura Croft Tomb Raider? LOL.I'd put both her and Paltrow on the medal pedestal. Whichever one gets gold is fine by me. FWIW, fookin' Moulin Rouge was great!
The movie was written for Meg Ryan. She basically did a Meg Ryan impersonation for the tone of her character.
Her iciness worked very well in the film "To Die For."
