David Mamet directed this film based on a 194o's play by Terrence Rattigan, which itself was based on a true incident. It takes place in 1912 London and involves a study of what happens to an upper class family whoi chooses to appeal the expulsion of their falsely accused son from a maratime academy. One of their three children is Rebecca Pigeon (Mamet's wife) and she is a sufferaget juggling two lovers and actually in ove with a third, the attorney defending her brother. This is a very subtle film with many nuances and is exquisitely directed and acted. Highly recommended.
Follow Ups:
I found this to be a real snoozer and wonder what on earth Mam was thinking when he chose this for production? My fave Mament is still Homocide. Mantenga and Mamet are just made for each other.

Well it is pale even if enjoyable, when compared to the original!
..enormously talented Robert Donat....
