I appreciated his performance more in "Capote" after I'd seen his interview. Wow, totally different person. I don't buy actor going into physical transformation just to fit the role. Such as Robert de Nero in "Raging Bull" or Charlize Theron in Monster. Great actor..no, dedicated actor ...yes. Hey, one don't have to join the army and go to Iraq, just because he'll be filming Gulf War movie. Or actually break his leg because he'll be doing Dustin Hoffman role in "Midnight Cowboy".
Follow Ups:
During the shooting of Marathon Man, there was a scene where Dustin Hoffman had to be breathless, before each take he ran round the set and came straight into character, talking to Lawrence Olivier. After 3 or 4 takes Larry was getting bored with waiting for Dustin to jog and asked him what he was doing. Dustin said he was running to get breathless, to which Larry, with a sigh said "Have you ever considered acting, dear boy?".
